Volunteer Update

Daily, Open Door Mission strives to operate in wisdom and safety for our organization, including those that serve with us and those that we serve. Over the past months, we have learned a lot about COVID-19, social distancing, and how to keep each other safe.

Because of the great work of our campus teams in keeping our residential spaces sanitized and safe, we can now begin to determine the next steps for volunteers to return to campus activities in the near future. As we develop what the next steps will exactly be, we are committed to keeping you updated.

Beginning June 1st, 2020, we were happy to welcome volunteers back in several areas in our Phase One Volunteers Return to Work; Chapel Teams, 12 Step Leaders and Groups, Bible Study Teams and Teachers.

On Saturday, June 27th, at 3 p.m. volunteers are invited to learn more about Phase One and Phase Two in Volunteers Returning to Work on the Open Door Mission Campus. Phase Two volunteer opportunities are in the kitchen at the Men’s Center, Cafe at the Lydia House, and the Timberlake Outreach Center. Both meetings will take place in the Garland Thompson Men’s Center Chapel/ Dining area for some delicious pastries and beverages being served to you by our students.

If you are interested in learning more about any of the Phase One or Phase Two Volunteer Return to Work opportunities – Join us! Please enter through the front door of the Garland Thompson Men’s Center wearing a face mask, temperatures and symptom checks will need to be completed upon entry as well as registering in Volgistics. If you are unable to join us on either Saturday but are interested in learning more about any of these areas please email volunteer@opendoormission.org

We look forward to having you back on campus soon! When the time comes when we can welcome everyone back to campus, you can expect a few new procedures to be in place including social distancing class formats, temperature checks, and required mask wearing for all volunteers. Until then we would love to see you participate in one of our VIP projects by Volunteering In Place! Whose place? Yours! Any time you spend caring for another is a great form of service regardless of the four walls you do it under. Our team has worked to provide new opportunities that you can do from home, work and/or church and still provide a meaningful impact to our guests’ lives. To view these opportunities, please click HERE and sign up today!

We are so grateful for the ongoing support and care you continue to show to the Open Door Mission. You are close to our hearts and we can’t wait to see you again soon! If you have any questions, please reach out to us at volunteer@opendoormission.org.

We will be posting updates on our website and look forward to seeing you soon!
