I am blessed to speak to various middle and high schools in the area about homelessness. The students often write me notes about what they learned and how the information has affected them. I am always amazed the most of the young people have no concept of the effect of homelessness on society and their lives. I will share some of these comments in “Thoughts from the School Yard”. These are their words and thoughts-uncensored.
“I was shocked on some of the stories that were told about homeless people. I was also shocked and now scared to grow up because of the money.”
“I learned the number of people living in poverty and how it effects them. I have changed views on homelessness. I will probably donate or volunteer now at Open Door Mission.”
“This presentation honestly changed my outlook on life. I know that I am truly blessed but want to help the others that are less lucky by donating and volunteering.”
“I didn’t that Omaha’s homeless percent was that high. I also didn’t know so many reasons cause homelessness. Was shocked to about nation wide yearly pay (Federal government poverty level) and how much everything costs.”
