I am blessed to speak to various middle and high schools in the area about homelessness. The students often write me notes about what they learned and how the information has affected them. I am always amazed the most of the young people have no concept of the effect of homelessness on society and their lives. I will share some of these comments in “Thoughts from the School Yard”. These are their words and thoughts-uncensored.
“I’ve learned that you can’t judge anyone by what they’re going through. I think that homeless people go through things more than others and they are scared to say anything for help. I feel like they should be treated the same as others because they are still human, just not wealthy.”
“Homeless is all around. Love on everyone. You never know what’s happening outside of school. Help is always needed. Little things add up. Don’t be quick to judge-be open minded.”
“I guess I never realized how extreme the impact of homelessness is, especially on young children. I really love the idea of having small donations (variety of drives) throughout the semester. Little things like that make a difference.”
