I recently read a Letter to the Editor in the Omaha World Herald. The writer pointed out that some people want to make sure that the immigrants are being taken care…housing, clothing, health care, food stamps, driver’s licenses and jobs. She pointed out that we are not even meeting those expectations for our own citizens…not even in the metro area. She pointed out that the shelters in our area, including Open Door Mission, could use help…especially because all the shelters are overcrowded. At Open Door Mission we are in overflow conditions for the families as well as the single men and women. It is hard to believe that there are families that are on a waiting list for a space to sleep on the floor! Open Door Mission serves over 3,000 meals a day to the hungry and still don’t meet the need. The Timberlake Outreach Center and our other 2 Outreach Centers serve thousands monthly with food pantries, clothing, household items and even furniture and appliances. Everything we share is free to those in need.
Do you want to make a difference? Do you want to help? VOLUNTEER! You can volunteer to do a drive to stock pantry and clothing shelves. You can volunteer to help in the kitchen prepping and serving food. You can volunteer to stock shelves in the Timberlake Outreach Center, or other two centers. You can volunteer to share your special skill or talent to enrich people’s lives. There is so much that needs to be done and we need your help. Check out all the wonderful ways you can bless others at our web site…www.opendoormission.org. See you Here!
