I am often saddened in my position by having to tell someone we are full and cannot shelter them today. Our staff works with callers, giving them resource numbers, including our own Timberlake Outreach Center. They try to help them get by until a room would open up here, or at another shelter. As I think about this, it leads me to acknowledge all the pieces that fit together in my life. If just one fell away, what a desperate situation I could find myself in (I immediately called my mom to say thanks for all she has been to me.) I also thought about all the pieces that fit together here at Open Door Mission that makes this such a place of hope for so many.
I wanted to say thanks to each of you. I am thankful for the generations before that toiled to start the Mission, faithful donors and prayer partners, staff that chose to serve, program members who have grown here, children who flourish here, and volunteers who give of their time and talents to make this a better place. I am in awe of all of you! Thank you for serving and giving – you are a piece that pulls so many out of desperate situations. God Bless you!
