Summer Blues…Blueberry Muffins

Do the summer blues have you and the kids down? Now is the time to do something for somebody else. Studies have proven that volunteering (hint, hint) and doing for others is just plain good for you. When you do face-to-face activities, such as volunteering at Open Door Mission, they can help reduce loneliness and isolation. It helps you get active. It promotes positive physiological changes in the brain associated with happiness. Doing something for others reduces your stress level and relieves negative feelings. Relieving stress and negativity helps us live longer.

Since today is National Blueberry Muffin Day it is the perfect time to gather the kids or family or friends or everyone and make some muffins! You can get really ambitious and go pick the blueberries, in the field or store. Then after making all those delicious muffins, go share them at Open Door Mission.  While you dropping them off at the kitchen, volunteer to help serve a meal.  You can go early (9:00 am) to help make sack lunches for those living on the street. Wouldn’t it be a special blessing for those on the street to find a fresh blueberry muffin in their sack lunch? So chase away your summer blues by making some blueberry muffins for others at Open Door Mission.
