Students in Ministry

I sat in church Sunday morning watching a slideshow and listening to the high school choir sing. I was again amazed that kids were so willing to give up some of their summer for a mission trip. Yes, they got to go to Colorado and white water raft and visit the Air Force Academy. However, they spent most of their time singing at nursing homes and women’s shelters. They took a chance and sang Christian songs in a public park. They chose to share God’s word through song.

Since I have been working at Open Door Mission, I have seen many groups of students come through to volunteer. A few weeks ago, I sat at my desk surrounded by a group from Catholic Heart Work Camp. It was fun listening to them share family and faith stories. They came from all over the country – Illinois, Tennessee, Louisiana, and Wisconsin. As they sat stuffing envelopes and talking, I knew they had all come with a heart for God.

Thank you to all the students who choose to come to Open Door Mission – who go to Colorado to sing God’s Word – and head to West Virginia to help in underprivileged neighborhoods. You may not totally realize now what your presence means in all these places, but everyone who is helped, does.

In Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
