Searching for Meaning…Finding Jesus

This is a story about a 19 year old name Tim.  Tim showed up a few months after I had started working at the Garland Thompson Men’s Center.  After joining the New Life Recovery Program for substance abuse, Tim started asking questions about God.  I will never forget the conversations we had at 11 o’clock at night with my much wiser coworker, Russell.  I witnessed Tim start off with a lot of doubt, curiosity and a million questions about the Bible, God’s will, His love, Mercy, forgiveness and how that translates in our lives.

It was great to watch Tim pour over scripture, digging for truth and meaning.  He has navigated through false teachings that were presented to him that many new believers would have been deceived by.  Tim started to improve every area of his life, physically, relationally, mentally and most importantly spiritually.  Even though he has struggled to get up at 4:30 in the mornings at times in order to serve the guests staying with us, his work ethic is ever improving.

Being an employee that is 25, I relate to a lot of the things Tim is going through, and have to say I am impressed with his desire for holiness.  He genuinely wants to look like Jesus to the people in his world.  I am very proud to serve at the Open Door Mission and watch God do miraculous changes in men’s lives for all of us who are willing to let Him!
