Open Door Mission Mourns One of Their Own

Aug 24, 2009  |     |   General

It is with a heavy heart that I write to share a tremendous loss in the Open Door Mission Family.

Dan Applegate, Open Door Mission’s Director of the Timberlake Outreach Center, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday evening. While the passing of Dan brings great sorrow to his family, friends and Open Door family, we rejoice in knowing that he has been embraced and welcomed into heaven by our loving Lord.
I ask that you would please pray for Dan’s wife, Karen, daughter Emily and husband Ken, son Eric and wife Jill, along with Dan’s sister, Marcia, and other family and friends.
With Christ’s Love,
Candace Gregory
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. Therefore, I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:1

  1. HEAVEN GROWS SWEETER

Now we are hurting, shocked and sore
Our dear brother with us no more
Our tears fall freely, but briefly so
There is hope in glory above, we know

Saints who remain on Earth below
Rejoice in the promise we will go
to join with Dan and those we love
in that great throne room up above!

With every struggle, loss and chore
    Heaven is greater than before!
So while we wait, and shed these tears
We’ll be a witness through our years.

  2. Thank you so much for all of your kind notes of encouragement, caring phone calls and prayers for the Applegate and Open Door Mission families. As many of you know, Dan and Karen have been in ministry at Open Door Mission for more than 21 years and married for 36 years, next month.

The family visitation will be held at Cutler – O'Neill Meyer Woodring Funeral Home located at 545 Willow Ave, Council Bluffs, IA on Wednesday, August 26, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Please join Dan's family and friends in "Celebration of Dan's Life" at First Christian Church located at 20794 Highway 92, Council Bluffs, IA on Thursday, August 27, at 10:30 a.m. A light lunch will be served following the service as you reminisce with family and friends.
