Who doesn’t love potatoes? There are so many varieties of potatoes and ways to fix them, giving a variety of flavors. Nutritionally potatoes are a powerhouse of goodness and gluten free. Did you know that potatoes are: just 110 calories, no fat, sodium or cholesterol, nearly half your daily value of vitamin C, more potassium than a banana, a good source of vitamin B6, fiber, magnesium and antioxidants? Potatoes are a staple at most shelters and homes of the working poor. In the summer Open Door Mission is often blessed by farmers’ gift of potatoes. We have received literally received tons of potatoes.
Whenever we receive a large donation of potatoes or sweet corn, or any bountiful blessings; we need extra kitchen helpers to help sort, clean, peel, shuck or prep the bounty to put on the table. This year the Open Door Mission Hunger Heroes Virtual Food Drive brought in a bounty too. All the cans and packaged goods need to be sorted and shelved. We need your help! Chase away your summer doldrums, volunteer at Open Door Mission. We have walk in volunteering Tuesday through Saturday…check it out at: https://www.opendoormission.org/volunteer/
