Looking Forward or Back?

Today is January first, a day of reflection and maybe resolutions. January is named for the two-faced God Janus. Janus was always looking back or to the future. How do you look at the New Year? Is it a day to look forward to see what can be or; is it a day look at the past and all that went wrong? Your attitude toward the New Year can set the tone for the whole year.

At Open Door Mission we encourage our guests to see the great possibilities of the future. Don’t dwell on the mistakes or failures of the past. God has forgiven you of the wrong you have done when you repent. Dwelling on past mistakes can be depressing as well as self-defeating. January is a good time to set some reachable goals. Set goals that will improve your physical, emotional and spiritual health. When we encourage our guests to reflect on their lives, we want them to see the good in their lives, their strengths and the great possibilities God has in store for their lives.

Look forward to the future…God has great plans for you. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
