Lesson for the Day

Jesus talked about helping the poor and needy in Matthew 25:35-40

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.

For 7 years I worked in the Men’s ministry and Lydia House departments with with the clients. Now, as the Executive Administrator I don’t get the chance to spend much time with the residence that we serve. I have had the awesome opportunity the last week to help in the Men’s Ministry Department working with all the men that are living at the Open Door Mission. To see the men in the morning getting ready for the day after having a good night’s sleep in a warm place, having a hot nutritious meal in their belly before they head out for the day and a friendly “good morning” from a smiling face, brings a joy and smile to their faces.

These are things that many homeless men, women, and children in the Heartland don’t get on a daily basis but because thanks to the generosity of the community Open Door Mission is able to provide, warm safe shelter, hot nutritious meals, life changing programs and a smiling face.

If you would like to see how you can make a difference in the lives of men, women, and children please visit the Open Door Mission’s website at www.opendoormission.org and sign up for your orientation and tour today.
