God Provides

My name is Kelli. As Case Manager at the Lydia House, I see both the varied needs found in working with the homeless population, and how God provides for them.

I was thinking the other day about how it’s both the big and little things that give glory to the Lydia House….. a place many call “home” for a season in their life. The bigger needs we have are provided in our new building as it shelters us from storms (we took cover twice this summer when the weather turned severe), keeps us cool in summer (Whew!) and provides warmth when it’s cold outside (hard to remember that right now). It is a safe environment for resting, regrouping and renewing the work of addressing individual issues of homelessness.

However, the little things we need have also been provided. This includes countless volunteers who come to pamper us (Spa Night with Eagles Nest), educate us (Girl Scouts presenting a Nutrition class for the children), and teach us (Bible studies). Then there are the people who just pull up to the Lydia House and donate a baby swing (it went to a mom who just asked for one the day before!), crayons, coffee and bagels – – – all the way to the “Tooth Fairy”, who visited a 5 year old boy from Missouri the night he lost one of his teeth…..he was spending his two week summer vacation up here with his mom and step dad. Yes, it’s both the little things AND the big things…

So, never assume that what you’re thinking about doing isn’t BIG enough. God provides, and He may be prompting you to be the giver of your time, talents or treasures!
