The women and families of the Lydia House are continually blessed. This last week, I had the opportunity to take some of the residents on a few “field trips”. It was exciting to see them and interact with them–outside the Lydia House. These outings, give our people time to put aside their issues, their situations, and just have fun. Whether it be at a Royals baseball game or going bowling, it gives them all a chance to be themselves and have fun, in a healthy way.
Saturday night when I took the residents to the Royals game, one of them came up to me and said, “Jessica, I have never been to a baseball game before…. sober. I always thought I needed to be under the influence to have fun, but I was wrong. I am having a great time, and the best part is— I will remember this forever.”
I am so thankful for these eye-opening experiences our families have, simply by going to a game. I’m also thankful to the donors who donate tickets to different activities that allow us to provide these adventures. The residents thoroughly enjoy their time away and can just have some clean fun!
