“Nebraska Strong” has been the popular phrase after all the flooding, snow and blizzard winds. The destruction is horrible, but cities, farmers and ranchers have remained strong while assessing the damage and losses. The more I read in the paper or see the news I see an important trend developing…it was churches opening their doors. The churches have become places to collect and distribute everything from toilet paper to shovels. Churches have become a place of safe shelter physically and spiritually. Sunday services and weekday services are full of people praying and supporting each other. There has been little to no looting, the National Guard has been called out to help not police. Neighbors who have lost everything pitch in to help others start up again.
At Open Door Mission all 3 of the Outreach Centers are available to provide for the flood victims also. I am continually amazed at the generosity of the Midwest. Knowing the Mission is listed as a resource for those in need people are generously giving household items, clothes and food to help all in need. (We are also taking donations of furniture and appliances at the Timberlake Outreach Center). I see God working, Christianity working like it should…unselfishly uplifting each other, helping each other for the good of the community as whole. We are Christian Strong!
