Calming the Storm

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
– Mark 4:35-39

Last Tuesday, my husband John said to me, “Let’s travel from Scottsbluff to North Platte, NE.” When leaving, we took Jesus along in the car. We headed east and there were other vehicles on the road. A furious squall came up and the clouds of dust broke over and around our car so that we could not see; it was a blizzard of dust. Our car was nearly swamped. In our panic, we stopped, started, turned around and turned around again. We stopped a second time, and this time we said to Jesus, “We remember that you can calm the wind, would you please do that now?” Jesus rebuked the wind and said “Quiet! Be Still!” The wind died down and it was completely calm. We could see now and were no longer terrified. We continued on our journey and arrived safely at our destination.

Does Jesus still perform miracles? When you’re a part of one, you know that he does.

I invite you to be a part of the miracles He performs every day at Open Door Mission. At our monthly Friends of the Friendless meeting, you can be a part of Jesus’ miraculous work transforming people’s lives. You can make sandwiches, sort clothes, or help with important mailings. Then, when evening comes, you can rest with the joy that comes from being part of a miracle.
