A “City” Helped Every Month

The other night when I had finished writing my monthly report for the TOC I started to reflect on the growth that has taken place over the past few years, and the impact the Open Door Mission Timberlake Outreach Center has had in preventing homelessness in our community.  We have helped individual families through the free goods we give out each month and the services we offer to those in need.

For instance, last month we helped over 8,850 individuals through our Timberlake Outreach Center, Kings Kloset program.  Think about that for a moment!  We helped more people last month than one of the small cities in Nebraska like Blair (7990), York (7,766), Nebraska City (7,289).  When I realized this I went WOW!!!  It gave me a whole new perspective on the work that is being done through our prevention programs.

Although we do not have a budget for helping people pay their utilities or rent like some agencies; we do give out free clothing, household items, furniture, diapers and food to the near homeless and working poor on monthly bases.  The goal is to help these families stretch their income through receiving some basic necessities from us free.  This helps stretch their income so; they can spend their limited finances on monthly bills like rent, utilities, or gas to get back and forth to work.

We are able to provide these services to thousands of individuals in our community because of your generous donations of goods and hours of service through volunteering at our mission.  So, thank you for partnering with us!  Your help is making a difference in the lives of the needy in our community.
