Valentine’s Day is all about love, and we sure saw an outpouring of that here at Open Door Mission. If you remember last Sunday, we all looked out the window to see the snow blowing around. The snow didn’t last long, but the cold sure settled in. We thought attendance at our Hearts of Hope Baby shower that afternoon would be slim. We were surprised and blessed when people started coming through the doors, bringing with them wonderful gifts for our mothers at Lydia House.

While we were having fun with our shower guests, volunteers were working with our chefs, Dave and Ramon, to prepare a Valentine’s Day banquet. The youth from Covenant Presbyterian Church was one of our very special volunteer groups. They worked cheerfully to decorate the dining room and chapel with hearts and streamers. We then invited our hungry and homeless guests to sit at red and white tables, and served them a delicious roast beef dinner. During dinner, the youth visited with our guests. What a pleasure and blessing it was to watch these Christian kids sitting down with our clients, engaging them in conversation. Valentine’s Day is about love, and we had a terrific day at Open Door Mission, sharing the love of Jesus. Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers that made the day possible!
