Over the past few decades, the reality of homelessness has
changed from the scruffy look of a middle-aged, inebriated man to the unblemished
face of a nine-year-old child. Yes, across our great nation, the average
age of a homeless person is nine! And in our own community today, the fastest
growing population among the homeless is the family - mom, dad, and the kids.
The reasons for homelessness are as diverse as the people
themselves. Addictions, abuse, welfare reform, and lack of education all
contribute to homelessness.
Open Door Mission offers recoveryprograms designed to
equip men, women, and children with long-term solutions that break the cycle
of homelessness and poverty. We also reach out into the Heartland with preventive
measures that equip the needy to remain in their own homes.
So, how can we give a solution of hope to the homeless? Of course, it takes
financial gifts to provide safe shelter and nutritious meals for hundreds
of hungry and homeless each day. But, it also takes time from people like
you-because time changes lives. And at Open Door Mission, we're in the business
of changing lives--one person at a time.
Thank you for your compassion and faithfulness.
All for Him,
