Lisa has her hands full – and she’s pretty excited about it! After graduating Open Door Mission’s New Life Recovery programs , Lisa is moving into our newly renovated transitional
housing apartment – a step away from independent living.
Just a few months ago, this would not have been possible. But generous supporters
heard about our need for transitional housing and donated significant gifts to
renovate an unused apartment on our property.
"Ill have my own kitchen!” Lisa says. ‘And no more shower shoes
because I’ll have my own bathroom!’
Ironically Lisa credits going to jail for the positive turn her life has taken: “Jesus
had to get me there to get my attention."
Lisa had fallen into a lifestyle she knew was hurtful to her three children. "I
lost my footing, but I wasn’t going to let them lose theirs,” she
says. In jail, she became a prayer leader in the God Mod and filled her hours with
Bible study job-related courses and classes on healthy relationships.
Released April 5, 2002, Lisa came straight to ODM’A Lydia House and dived
into Bible study, money management, and relationship classes. I learned to use
my "wise mind,”’ she says. “If
I act out of logic rather than emotion; I get better results.”
January 7, Lisa celebrated one year drug and smoke free; she graduated the New
Life Recovery programs , February 1. "I am so excited
about my progress!” she
says, “but I take no credit. I’ve done
the possible; God did the impossible."
The Mission gave Lisa a Bible and kitchenware to recognize her determination. Yet,
a quiet moment with her daughter told Lisa just how far she’d come. She asked,
Mom, you really do love Jesus, don’t you?’”
In addition to her walk with Christ, a healthy lifestyle, the trust
of her children and the material goods that Fill her new apartment, God provided
a verse Lisa lives by each day “Philippians 4:13 says, I can do everything
through him who gives me strength. When my flesh rises up against me, I say, Lord,
I don’t have
to give in to this and I get victory.” - Lisa
