Many homeless families who come to Open Door Mission leave behind pasts filled with disappointments and failures. They want to replace those memories with something brighter, something to smile about … something worth remembering.

During Thanksgiving and Christmas, we have many opportunities to create new memories filled with homey times that warm the heart. This year, we asked several men, women and children how Open Door Mission will make Christmas different.

Jerry, pictured here with wife Margo and daughters Molly and Callie, said, “This is the first time in 12 years I’ll be able to provide for my kids on my own, out of my own pocket.”

Others responded:

“Now I’m part of the New Life Recovery programs and it’s changing my life.”

“We will be in our own home!”

“I have a good job this year.”

“I’m in a safe place with a roof over my head and good people all around.”

“My dad has a job now, and my sisters and me are excited for Christmas!”
