“It’s an awesome position!” he says. “I have anywhere from two to six guys working for me. They take in the clothing...the beddings, the furniture, and they sort it. I make sure everybody’s doing what they’re supposed to do.” George loves having this chance to help other men who are in the same spot he once was. He says, “...when they find out I was in the programs ...they’re really surprised and happy. They want to excel, too.” He goes on to tell how every day provides opportunities for him to be a leader and a role model for the guys he supervises—and for the many volunteers who come to help out. “Everybody gets along, and we just have a great time!” George exclaims. George’s job is not the only good thing happening in his life. He’s actively involved in a church and also in a Celebrate Recovery group—a Christ-centered programs that provides support and fellowship as George continues his life-long commitment to sobriety. He is able to rent his own comfortable apartment— the upstairs section of his sponsor’s house, located just five minutes away. George makes the drive to work in his own car, he has a nice bank account, a cell phone, and more. And today, George is free from the anger and depression he struggled with for many years. He enjoys getting together with his friends to go camping, out to dinner, or simply to hang out. “We just have a great time fellowshipping, talking about the Lord, where we’ve been and where we’re going,” he says. “I’m blessed!” As far as George has come, he still says he has a long way to go. Every day, he keeps his mind focused on God and clings to his favorite verse, John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” As you can see, there really is new life... everlasting life...after recovery. As our partner in ministry, you helped George find it!
