Child Like all children, the homeless little ones whose families rely on Open Door Mission for shelter and recovery have dreams and wishes as Christmas approaches. Some sound familiar - the newest Barbie accessory … the latest Play Station game. But others have little to do with Saint Nick or Toys R Us.

We asked children in our emergency shelter and on our New Life Recovery programs this question: If you could have any wish come true this Christmas, what would it be? Here’s what they said:

I’d wish for a home. R.S.

I’d like to hang out with a big brother who could teach me stuff. D.L.

I’d like both my sisters to live with my mom and me. N.L.

I want a car to get back home. K.W.

I’d ask for a good home and that my sister can complete Job Corps. S.L.

I want a nice house with a dog and enough money to pay our bills. M.B.

I’d like to know who made God? M.K.

I want to see my real dad. C.W.

I’d wish to see my grandma. She died. B.M.

I want to be out on my own. D.C.

Open Door Mission can’t make all their dreams come true. But God can meet their needs, great and small. In the meantime, we’ll be here to show His love, to bring them comfort and to make their holiday season a little more like home.
