Karen Applegate

 

Karen Applegate is Director of Advancement at Open Door Mission

There were only four office employees when Karen Applegate was hired as Open Door Mission’s Bookkeeper in 1988. In 1996, she began serving as the Assistant Director of Development. She has served in the capacity of Director of Development since 2002, now refocused her title is Director of Advancement, and she manages the Open Door Mission development Karen Applegateteam who offer support to the fund raising campaigns, Volunteer Department, and Public Relations.

Karen and her husband, Dan, have two adult children, Emilee and her husband Ken, and Eric and his wife, Jill. Herbie and Holly are their two American Cocker Spaniels.

Karen’s passion for this ministry has afforded her to witness the changing face of homelessness.

Open Door Mission is a Gospel Rescue Mission founded in 1954. Each day, Open Door Mission ministries provides 320 men, women, and children with safe shelter beds, serves nearly 1,500 hot nutritious meals, and provides preventive measures to more than 250 families living in poverty. to meet the basic physical needs of the hungry and homeless, the Open Door Mission’s day facility services provide free transportation from the downtown area to Open Door Mission and Lydia House. Open Door Mission offers life-changing programs for those recovering from life-altering addictions and abuse to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty.
