Friends of the Friendless is a volunteer organization, open to both men and women, that supports and aids the work of Open Door Mission by our prayers, gifts, promotion and service.
Meetings are the first Tuesday of every month starting promptly at 11:30 a.m., with catered lunch by Chef Claude. Testimonies from current program members and alumni, ministry updates, prayer / praise time and a short business session are part of the activities, with service projects following. Projects regularly include making sack lunches, wrapping plastic utensils, sorting and restocking clothing and food supplies at the Timberlake Outreach Center.
Special service projects for Open Door Mission residents include our monthly Birthday Blessings party at the Lydia House. We provide small gifts for children and adults who have had a birthday that month along with cake and root beer floats for everyone.
Spa Days in April and October include hairstyling, facials, make-up tables, hand treatments, back and shoulder massages, an accessory table with an assortment of jewelry, scarves and purses, and refreshments.
Our card ministry provides residents with stamps, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Christmas cards. Last year alone, we gave out around 130 Mother’s Day cards, 84 Father’s Day cards, and 400 Christmas cards. We also give carved wooden crosses to those graduating from Open Door Mission’s life-changing programs.
We always welcome new people who want to become involved with Open Door Mission. At our Friends of the Friendless meetings, you will hear firsthand how lives are being changed, and have the opportunity to actually put hands and feet to work in service. Come check us out the first Tuesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. for food, fun and fellowship.
